WEBINAR 1 "How to Become an Expert Nursing Advocate"

Presenters: Teresa Morris, NOVA Director of Advocacy & Government Relations. Nancy Claflin, DNP, MS, RN, CENP, NEA-BC, CPHQ, FNAHQ, NOVA Nurse Emeritus.

Objectives: Participants will learn how to advocate and educate members of Congress on behalf of nursing and the impact on veterans' health. A lively discussion on why the voice of VA nurses is critical to the care provided to the veterans within the Department of Veterans Affairs.

WEBINAR 2 “Special Advancement for Achievement (SAA) and Special Advancement for Performance (SAP)”

Presenter: Joan Clifford, MSM, RN, FACHE, NEA-BC, Deputy Nurse Executive, VA Boston Health Care System.
 
Objectives: At the end of this discussion, the participant should be able to describe the criteria for Special Advancement for Performance and Special Advancement for Achievement and identify whether SAA or SAP criteria are met when reviewing examples.

WEBINAR 3 “Providing Meaningful Input for Your Proficiency for Nurse I Level 3 and Nurse II"

Presenter: Connie Perry-Simon, MSN, RN, BC, NOVA Nurse Emeritus
 
Objectives: Participants will gain the ability to compare and contrast the critical distinctions in levels of practice for Nurse I and Nurse II, be able to state two examples of the scope of practice for Nurse I Level 3 and Nurse II, and select one of the elements in the Dimensions of Nursing Practice to develop one specific example of how the dimension is met at the next grade.
Prior to this presentation, it is recommended that the attendee review a copy of his/her functional statement, career path and dimensions of practice for the grade sought.

Objectives: Participants should be able to identify options, eligibility, and calculation of Federal retirement benefits for the purpose of equipping employees with the knowledge required to make competent decisions regarding their annuity, Thrift Savings Program and Social Security.

Objectives: This video will define mentors, explain why VHA nurses need mentors, describe the characteristics of a good mentor, define how to become a VHA Certified Mentor, and learn about the NOVA Mentoring Program and understand how to apply to become a NOVA mentor or mentee.
