NOVA awards honor individuals and/or groups who have made significant contributions to the Nurses Organization of Veterans Affairs, the nursing profession, the health care of veterans, or in service to our country.
The Silver Star Chapter Award is presented to an outstanding local NOVA chapter. NOVA chapters are the backbone of the organization. Members meet, share ideas, learn from educational speakers, share nursing stories and innovative ideas, plan legislative activities and carry on the work of NOVA. This award recognizes “grassroots” efforts by chapters. The chapter needs to be recognized by the NOVA National Office as an active chapter.
Examples of each area must be addressed in the nomination:
Briefly describe your chapter’s educational events.
What is your chapter’s grassroots approach in the legislative arena?
Describe other chapter activities that support nursing recruitment and retention, such as local Nurses Week activities, community involvement, articles in the local newspapers, etc.
Describe your chapter’s passion for NOVA and tell us why your chapter merits this award.
The chapter needs to be recognized by the National Office as an “active” chapter (bylaws on file, Board List on file, etc).
The chapter needs to complete the application which follows and send it to the National Office by April 1, 2016.
The Awards Committee, with the Executive Director, will review the applications and select the winner.
The winning chapter will be notified by the Executive Director via email, telephone, or regular mail.
An article on the chapter will appear in a subsequent issue of NOVA News and possibly be posted to the NOVA website.
Please note the scale that will be used to score your submissions:
0 = Unmet
1 = Met without examples
2 = Met with examples
3 = Met with examples and outcome
Make sure you read each question carefully and provide a brief but descriptive response. Applications that are incomplete will not be considered.
